Some love check lists. Some do not.

I tend to be on the “not” side of that equation.

But either way, there have been times when the “basics” of gospel study…

… you know, the prayer and scripture study stuff…

become more of a check list.

And these times aren’t even necessarily when I am feeling spiritually blah.

I might even be doing quite well.

There are blessings that come from doing these things even if it is just out of habit.

But the peace and joy comes when I view my times of prayer or scripture study as opportunities to connect with Heaven.

When I do it with the intent to connect, the experience becomes sweeter and the insights I gain more profound.

And with me being me, I need as many connections with Heaven as I can get.

Elder Jeffery R Holland recently said that even though peace would be taken from the earth in the last days, the prophets promised that peace does not have to be taken from us individually. (“Not as the World Giveth” April 2021)

So I have been striving let go of the check list and instead look for opportunities to connect and feel peace.

It can make all the difference.
